Staff were recruited both locally and abroad. Staff comprised Singaporeans, Filipinas, Sri Lankans, Indians, and Myanmese. As of 31 December 2006, there were 75 care staff and 28 support staff.
AHL also engaged its own part-time consultant Psycho-geriatrician, Geriatrician, General Practitioners for 24-hour coverage, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, and a full-time Social Worker to provide multi-disciplinary care.
Training of Staff: Staff were offered opportunities to equip themselves with knowledge and skills to provide better care through in-house training programmes and programmes offered by other agencies.
Dementia Care Training: In August 2004, Ms Moyra Jones, author of ‘Gentlecare’ on dementia care, was engaged to train the staff. The model of care used to manage the residents and clients at day care is the result of the training.
On-the-Job (OJT) Training Centre: AHL obtained the approval to be an OJT Training Centre from Institute of Technical Education in August 2001.
ITE Approved Training Centre: AHL obtained the approval to be an Institute of Technical Education Approved Training Centre in March 2003. Once a year, AHL conducted the ITE SKILLS Certificate Programme in Health Care (Home Care) Programme.
Besides the staff of AHL, GCE ‘N’ level students were also accepted as trainees for the Programme.
