Jacob - Our Energetic Go-getter
Jacob used to be an operations manager at a shipyard, leading a happy and meaningful life. He spent his free time swimming and taking care of his dog. All of that changed when he was diagnosed with Dementia four years ago.
After the diagnosis, Jacob felt lost, without a purpose that his previous job provided. He attempted to occupy his time at Senior Activity Centres, but the activities there weren't purposeful to him. He needed something more.
That's why, when an opportunity for employment came along, in the form of AHL's Therapy Through Work, Jacob took it on enthusiastically, with an open mind to take on new skills. He diligently attended and passed the Basic Food Hygiene course conducted by Dignity Kitchen, and was quickly employed by hawkers at Our Tampines Hub. Today, he enjoys the social interaction and occupation that employment brings.
After re-discovering his life purpose, Jacob continues to contribute to society in ways he never did before and looks forward to doing it every day.
