Molly Loh - Our Dancing Queen
When she still resided in Gerbera, one of Apex's Assisted Living Homes, Mdm Molly was the Home's best dancer, always eager to teach any staff willing to learn. A conscientious, self-engaged lady, she took great pride in everything that she did, including dancing, artwork, and even the household chores she helped out in.
It was, therefore, heartbreaking when a stroke took away most of her physical ability, rendering her bed-bound. With the additional needs for support, Mdm Molly was moved to Periwinkle, our Tender Loving Care Home, a Home where residents are blessed with unconditional love and focused attention on physical health, comfort and stimulation.
Following the stroke, most of the activities she was engaged in before could no longer be done, and she spent the first few weeks not responding to any engagement. With knowledge of her interest in dancing, the TLC team started consistently engaging her in multi-sensory stimulation therapy, with the use of Cha-Cha music.
Over time, she started responding more, and today, she can fully open her eyes, alert, and responsive to staffs' prompting. On a good day, she might even be seen moving her arms along with the music, engaged to dance in a way she is still able to, a way that is meaningful to her.
Persons with dementia, engaged meaningfully through strength-based approaches in a nurturing environment, can continue to live well with meaning and purpose.
Your generous donation will go into helping us enable and empowering Persons with Dementia such as Mdm Molly Loh, one of the 210 residents staying at our Lodge, to continue a life with meaning and purpose.
