At Apex Harmony Lodge, we believe that life with dementia is still a life to be lived in connection with others. Community engagement is a vital part of dementia care. It helps residents stay socially connected, maintain a sense of identity and purpose, and feel included rather than isolated.
Through partnerships with schools, community groups, and volunteers, our residents take part in community activities both within the Lodge and out in the community. These shared experiences support emotional well-being, stimulate memories, and build understanding between people living with dementia and the wider public.
We regularly bring residents to well-loved destinations across Singapore, including Gardens by the Bay, the Singapore Flyer, and River Wonders. Each outing gathers together residents, families, volunteers, and staff to create shared and meaningful experiences beyond the Lodge.
Our outings are meticulously designed to include residents at every stage of dementia, ensuring that both independent individuals and those needing higher nursing care can participate. With thoughtful planning, we make it possible for residents to safely engage with the community.
For families, these outings create opportunities for connection in a different setting. For staff, they offer a chance to relate to residents beyond daily routines. More broadly, they contribute to greater public awareness, reframing dementia as a life that still holds connection, participation, and presence.

For many individuals, work has long been a source of identity, routine, and purpose. Therapy Through Work recognises this by offering residents the opportunity to take part in meaningful, work-like activities within partner workplaces.
Through structured yet flexible engagements, residents participate in tasks that provide cognitive stimulation, social interaction, and a sense of contribution. These experiences are adapted to individual abilities, ensuring that participation remains both supportive and purposeful.
The impact is tangible. Residents build confidence and self-esteem, remain physically and mentally engaged, and reconnect with a sense of usefulness. Beyond activity, the programme affirms that purpose and contribution remain possible — and meaningful — at every stage of life.
Community engagements also take shape through creative and cultural collaborations that bring residents into shared public spaces. Examples of such initiatives that provide opportunities for expression, participation, and recognition beyond the care setting include:
Through Sing Out Loud!, a joint effort with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, residents participated in guided singing sessions led by professional artists, culminating in a live performance at the Recital Studio. For many, it was their first time performing on a professional stage — a meaningful milestone shared with family and the community.
Similarly, Expressions from the HeART showcased residents’ artworks and poetry at Tampines Regional Library, offering the public a window into their creativity and lived experiences. These platforms affirm the voices, talents, and continued presence of persons living with dementia in the community.
