Our intergenerational bonding programmes bring residents and younger individuals together through shared conversations and activities, creating natural opportunities for connection across generations.
Residents experience companionship and purpose, while younger participants gain empathy, perspective, and meaningful relationships beyond their usual circles.
The Lodge has been in partnership with UWCSEA since 2012, reflecting the depth and continuity built over time. At the heart of this collaboration is the Music with Reminiscence programme, where students create personalised playlists based on residents’ life stories and musical preferences. The outcomes are often powerful: residents who are usually withdrawn may begin to sing along or respond with recognition, revealing moments of memory and connection that words alone cannot reach.
The partnership has also expanded to include middle school students through the SEED (Social, Environmental, Entrepreneurship Development) programme. Residents now visit UWCSEA East Campus for shared activities, stepping into a wider world shaped by curiosity, energy, and mutual discovery, and meaningful engagement across generations today also in a sustained and evolving journey together.
Our partnership with Little Shepherds’ Schoolhouse since 2015, brings together the openness of early childhood with the lived experience of our residents in a natural intergenerational setting that are both grounding and uplifting.
Through weekly sessions, both groups engage in creative arts, shared meals, gentle movement, and storytelling activities that foster natural and joyful connection across generations in a relaxed environment and expressive learning experiences.
These encounters provide meaningful social stimulation for residents while nurturing empathy, patience, and understanding in children, often accompanied by laughter and spontaneous interaction in ways that feel organic and unforced.
What emerges is a simple but profound exchange — one rooted not in structured outcomes, but in the ease of companionship, shared presence, and unhurried moments together each week together too for both residents and children.
Since 2014, our partnership with Masjid Al-Istighfar Kindergarten has grown into a familiar and cherished rhythm over the years. Sessions are held bi-weekly, alternating between the Mosque and the Lodge, creating continuity that both residents and children look forward to that supports continuity and anticipation.
Some of the most memorable moments arise when residents begin speaking in Malay with the children — a language that often reconnects them with personal history and identity in everyday moments of connection. These exchanges bring spontaneity, pride, and visible joy, enriching both sides in unexpected ways of connection.
Visits to the Kindergarten setting also provide residents with a calm and welcoming environment, where warmth and hospitality support ease of interaction and create a comfortable space for shared activities and connection.
